Film remakes and the rebooting of "RoboCop"

If you're an AP buddy of mine then it's possible you've already read this so don't waste your time.

I've bitched about this before so guess what? I feel like doing it again. I really feel sorry for the little kids in this generation. They're growing up in a mediocre era where originality is dying. It was bad when we were little but holy jumboshitballs it's getting worse. I'm tired of this second-hand cinema and blockbuster mentality. Someone on IMDB described it as "stuck with your older brother's action-figures because your parents are too cheap or lazy to by new ones." I think the analogy fits but that's just me. So help me in the name of all that is divine, lay-off the film re-makes! Enough is a enough. I don't care if these remakes are well made or get good ratings. I'd rather see something new.

This rant was triggered after I learned that MGM is "rebooting" or "re-imaging" RoboCop. I guess they're starting to replace the word remake with re-image to ease the minds of film buffs like myself. Anyway, the new RoboCop is going to be directed by the guy who directed The Wrestler and The Fountain so I'm not gonna bash it yet. But I fear that this reboot might have the following:

1. A stupid pretty-boy for the lead.

2. Shitty mediocre MTV style editting to make it look flashy and cool.

3. Completely revamping Robo's suit to compete with other metal suit heroes like Iron Man.

4. Marketing it as the summer's hottest action flick like Hollywood always does to make money.

5. Overthetop SFX.

6. Toning down the blood and violence like a bunch of pussies. The violence is supposed to be overthetop in the Robocop movies. It's part of the dark humor aspect.

7. Omitting the satire of the original. Paul Verhoven has always been good at putting dark satire in his films and I'd hate to see them make the new one too serious and over dramatic.

8. ED-209 must be in this movie. If not well then it's gonna be a fucking sacrilege.

Some of those mentioned above have already been done to butcher remakes. Some movies don't need to be remade. They should re-release the originals like they did with Blade Runner, Alien, First Blood etc. I'm not saying all remakes are bad I'm just saying they're unnecessary and a result of short attention spans and evil Hollywood executives. The kids of this generation are going to miss the point behind the original films.Oh and BTW if the Escape from New York remake goes through I'm gonna go on an armed rampage then kill myself afterwards and you'll hear about me on the news. :)
